Obverse description A plain cross with flared terminals occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle and framed by a quadrilobe of ornate foliate lobes rendered in the Gothic style. The four quadrants between the arms of the cross display decorative foliate elements. The surrounding legend, separated by rosette stops, runs along the outer border between two beaded or rope-twist circles, naming the issuing lord in uncial characters.
Obverse script Latin (uncial)

Reverse description Saint Abundius, patron of Como, is depicted nimbate and enthroned in full frontal view, vested in episcopal robes and wearing a miter. He holds a crozier in his left hand and raises his right hand in a gesture of benediction. The figure is rendered in the Romanesque-Gothic manner characteristic of northern Italian ecclesiastical coinage of the mid-14th century. The surrounding legend, punctuated by stops and rosette ornaments, identifies the saint in uncial script within the outer border.
