Obverse description Four-line abbreviated Latin inscription within an ornate cartouche flanked by decorative scrollwork, reading VINC / II DVX / MANT / VII, identifying the issuer as Vincenzo II, seventh Duke of Mantua. A ducal crown surmounts the cartouche, dominating the upper portion of the field. The legend is rendered in bold relief capital letters characteristic of early seventeenth-century Italian hammered coinage. The overall design is contained within a plain inner circle, with a beaded border visible along the coin's periphery.
