Obverse description Facing half-length effigy of Edward of Woodstock (the Black Prince) depicted as a crowned and bearded ruler, draped in a mantle with stylized drapery folds rendered in the Gothic manner. The prince is shown holding a sceptre in his right hand, with a fleur-de-lis finial visible in the upper field to his right. The figure is set within a plain inner circle, surrounded by a beaded border. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin reads the title of Edward as firstborn son of the King of England.
