Additional information

Stephen II ruled Moldavia during one of its most fractious periods — his reign saw repeated challenges from rival claimants, and he himself held power across multiple interrupted intervals between 1433 and 1447. Coinage attributed to his Type VI issues reflects the administrative persistence of a ruler who kept minting despite near-constant political instability along the Moldavian-Polish-Ottoman frontier.

Billon coinage of this weight class circulated as everyday transactional currency in a principality deeply integrated into Black Sea trade networks. The MBR#536 classification places this within a typology still being refined by Romanian numismatists.
