Obverse description Central field displays a quartered heraldic shield combining the arms of Anjou and Bar, surmounted by the arms of Lorraine, set upon a long cross whose arms extend to an inner circle. The four quarters of the cross field are decorated with fleurs-de-lis and small stars. A circular legend in Gothic lettering runs between two raised concentric rings, separated from the field by a beaded inner border.

Reverse description A long upright sword with a prominent crossguard dominates the central field, flanked on the left by the arms of Bar — a bend gemel accompanied by three small crosses — and on the right by an alerion (an eaglet displayed without beak or feet), the heraldic charge of Lorraine. The design is contained within an inner circle, with a Gothic circular legend running between two raised concentric rings and a beaded border in the outer margin.
