| Obverse description | Central field depicts a château tournois (castle of Tours) rendered in a stylised Gothic manner, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The border between the inner circle and the outer legend is ornamented with a ring of nine fleurs-de-lis interspersed with a small shield of Burgundy positioned at the top. The Latin legend encircling the design identifies the issuing authority as Count of Auxonne. The overall execution is characteristic of mid-14th-century French feudal billon coinage, struck by hand with irregular flan preparation. |
