| Obverse description | Central field depicts the Hohenzollern eagle of Brandenburg, displayed with wings spread and head turned to the right, rendered in the late Gothic heraldic style characteristic of late 15th-century German coinage. The eagle occupies the majority of the flan, with fine feather detail visible on the wings. A circular legend surrounds the device, reading IOHANNES D G MARCHIO BRAND in Gothic uncial letterforms, invoking the name and title of Margrave John I Cicero. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat uneven flan typical of hammered billon coinage of the period. |
