Obverse description Central field depicts the Hohenzollern eagle of Brandenburg, displayed with wings spread and head turned to the right, rendered in the late Gothic heraldic style characteristic of late 15th-century German coinage. The eagle occupies the majority of the flan, with fine feather detail visible on the wings. A circular legend surrounds the device, reading IOHANNES D G MARCHIO BRAND in Gothic uncial letterforms, invoking the name and title of Margrave John I Cicero. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat uneven flan typical of hammered billon coinage of the period.
