Reverse description Central field bears a crowned heraldic shield of Lorraine, displaying the traditional arms of the duchy — a bend with three alerions — surmounted by a ducal crown with prominent fleurons. The shield is rendered in low relief characteristic of early seventeenth-century hammered billon coinage. A Latin circular legend encircles the shield along the periphery, reading MONETA NOVA NANC, identifying this as new coinage struck at Nancy, the ducal capital.
