Additional information

John of Bavaria never actually ruled Bavaria. He held the bishopric of Liège from 1389 until he was deposed in 1418, after which his cousin Emperor Sigismund granted him administration of Luxembourg as a compensatory arrangement — a political parking of an inconvenient Wittelsbach. His coinage for the duchy therefore spans an awkward interregnum, struck under the authority of a man governing a territory that was never really his by inheritance.

The Weiller and Boudeau references diverge slightly on subtype attribution for this denomination, suggesting more than one die marriage circulated across the period.
