Obverse description Central field dominated by a shield bearing the rampant lion of Luxembourg, rendered in the Gothic heraldic style characteristic of early 15th-century Low Countries coinage. The shield is surmounted by a small crown. The design is enclosed within a plain inner circle, with a circular Gothic legend occupying the outer border. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregular edge and uneven surface typical of medieval silver coinage. The legend reads the name and titles of John of Bavaria as Duke and son of Holland.
