Obverse description A mounted knight in full armour advances to the right, bearing a shield on his left arm and holding an upright sword in his right hand. The horse is depicted in a stylised medieval manner, its legs extending into the surrounding Latin legend and effectively dividing it. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which the titulary inscription runs continuously around the periphery. The overall style is characteristic of late 13th-century Flemish hammered coinage.
