| Obverse description | Crowned bust of Robert II facing left, with a sceptre positioned before the effigy bearing a small star at the base of the handle. The royal portrait is rendered in a stylised medieval fashion characteristic of Scottish hammered coinage of the late 14th century. The bust is contained within a double tressure of fleurs, a heraldic device emblematic of the Scottish crown. The surrounding legend is rendered in uncial Gothic lettering. An inner beaded border separates the central design from the marginal inscription. |
