Obverse description Left-facing crowned bust of King Robert II within a double tressure of eight arcs, with trefoils ornaments in the spandrels. The letter 'B' appears in the field behind the king's head. The effigy is rendered in a stylised medieval manner characteristic of Scottish hammered coinage of the late fourteenth century. The royal legend encircles the bust between the inner and outer beaded borders.
