Obverse description Central shield bearing the quartered arms of Brabant and Limburg, rendered in Gothic heraldic style typical of 14th-century Low Countries coinage. The shield is positioned upright in the field and surrounded by three pairs of trefoils arranged symmetrically, one pair at each flank and one at the base. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which runs the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters. The overall composition is well-centred on an irregular hammered flan characteristic of medieval minting practice.
Obverse script Latin (uncial)

Reverse description A floriated triple cross occupies the full field, its arms terminating in ornate trefoil finials and dividing the space into four quarters. In each quarter angle appears one letter of the mint name, reading L - O - V - A (for Lovanium, i.e. Leuven), struck in bold Gothic uncial characters. The cross is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the circumferential legend running in the outer field. The design is executed in the characteristic Brabantine groat style of the early 14th century, with strong relief on the cross arms typical of hammered silver coinage of the period.
