| Descrizione del dritto | Facing crowned bust of James III in high relief, rendered in the characteristic flat, stylised manner of mid-fifteenth-century Scottish hammered coinage. The king is depicted wearing a crown with fleurs-de-lis and is shown full-face within a beaded inner circle. Floral or trefoil ornaments appear to either side of the bust, serving as decorative field elements. The surrounding legend, separated by stops, reads IACOBVS : 3 : D : GRA REX SCOTO, identifying the monarch as James III by the Grace of God, King of Scots. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and uneven strike typical of hammered silver issues of the period. |
