Additional information

The Annulet-trefoil sub-issue sits at the precise transitional moment when Henry V's death in August 1422 handed the throne to a nine-month-old infant. The annulets that distinguish this coinage from the preceding Annulet issue appear on both the London and Calais outputs, but Calais pieces carry their own positional markers that allow attribution — the mint had operated under tight crown supervision since Edward III seized it in 1347 specifically to process bullion from the wool staple trade.

Calais halfgroats of this sub-issue are considerably scarcer than their London counterparts, reflecting the mint's intermittent output during a period of contested regency governance.
