Obverse description Within a polylobe border, the impaled shields of Brabant-Burgundy (left) and Hainaut (right) are tilted toward one another in heraldic fashion. A small lion passant is depicted beneath and between the two shields, serving as a central supporting charge. The outer field carries a circular Latin legend in Gothic lettering identifying the joint rulers. The overall composition reflects the characteristic heraldic style of the Low Countries in the early fifteenth century.
