Obverse description Crowned facing bust of David II, turned slightly to the left, depicted as an older monarch with flowing hair, within a beaded inner circle. The king's effigy is rendered in the Gothic style typical of mid-14th century Scottish hammered coinage, with a prominent crown surmounting the head. A sceptre is held to the right of the bust. The surrounding field carries the royal legend in uncial Latin characters between the beaded inner and outer borders.
