| Opis awersu | Central field bearing a crowned heraldic shield composed of two quartered coats of arms: the upper-left and lower-right quarters displaying the Burgundian lion rampant, and the upper-right and lower-left quarters displaying the Flemish lion rampant. The shield is surmounted by a ducal crown with prominent fleurs-de-lis finials. The entire central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, surrounded by a continuous Gothic uncial legend in the outer field reading the titles of John, Duke of Burgundy and Count of Flanders. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, characteristic of hand-struck medieval hammered coinage. |

The cross and charges are enclosed within a beaded inner circle.
