| Reverse description | Crowned and quartered heraldic shield of Philip II's royal arms, displaying the quarterings of Castile, León, Aragon, and other Habsburgo-Spanish territories, with the inescutcheon of Portugal. The complex shield is surmounted by an imperial crown in high relief. The surrounding circular Latin legend, distributed across the upper and lower fields, reads PHS.D.G.HISP Z REX.DVX.BR (Philip, by the grace of God, King of Spain etcetera, Duke of Brabant). The reverse is typical of the Spanish-Netherlandish royal coinage of the period, with bold heraldic engraving on an irregularly shaped hammered flan. |
