Obverse description Draped bust of Duke Leopold I facing right, wearing a long curled periwig in the late Baroque manner, with bare neck and shoulders visible below. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the flowing locks of the wig. The circumferential legend reads LEOP · I · D · G · D · LOT · BAR · REX · IE ·, divided by the portrait, with the mint date partially visible in the lower field near the coin's rim. The overall style reflects the French academic engraving tradition prevalent at the Nancy Mint in the early eighteenth century.
