| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device consists of an ornate floriated cross composed of four fleurs-de-lis arranged at the cardinal points, their stems meeting at the center to form a cross pattée, with the mint mark Z (Grenoble) visible at the center. The cross is elaborately decorated with scrollwork and lily terminals in the refined Renaissance style typical of Charles IX coinage. A beaded inner border separates the central design from the circumferential legend. The outer legend in Latin, XPS. VINCIT. XPS REGNAT. XPS. IMP., proclaims the Christus vincit formula, with the date 1566 and the mint letter D Z incorporated into the legend, identifying the issue as struck at Grenoble. |
