| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned French royal arms — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by a royal crown, all within a beaded inner circle. The heraldic shield is rendered in the late Renaissance style typical of Valois coinage. The surrounding circular legend in Latin capitals reads the king's titulature and regnal year. The overall design is characteristic of French hammered gold coinage of the sixteenth century, with the shield occupying the full center of the flan. |
