Obverse description Central field features a stylized castle or tower device within a linear inner circle, characteristic of Genoese coinage tradition. The abbreviated legend surrounding the central motif reads R A DVX IANVEN XXIII, identifying Raphael Adorno as the twenty-third Doge of Genoa. The lettering is rendered in uncial Latin characters and distributed around the periphery of the coin. The overall design is typical of the hammered half-genovino series, exhibiting the irregular flan and bold die work associated with mid-fifteenth-century Genoese gold coinage.
