| Obverse description | Full-length effigy of Helvetia, the allegorical personification of Switzerland, depicted standing and facing left, draped in a classical toga. She holds an upright spear in her right hand and rests her left hand upon a shield bearing the Swiss federal cross. A border of 22 six-pointed stars encircles the field, representing the 22 cantons of the Swiss Confederation at the time of issue. The engraver's signature and the legend HELVETIA appear in the lower field and beneath the effigy respectively, in Roman capital letters. |
