背面描述 Central shield of France semé with three fleurs-de-lis arranged two over one on a horizontally lined field, surmounted by the royal crown of France adorned with fleurs-de-lis and a cross pommée. The shield is flanked by two decorative branches — an olive branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right — tied at the base. The denomination 1/2 appears to the left of the shield and F. to the right. The date and mint mark 1829 BB are inscribed in the exergue below the branches.

Charles X's accession in 1824 brought a militant ultra-royalist to the throne, and his coinage program was correspondingly swift — the new effigy types entered production almost immediately after his coronation. His reign ended just six years later when the July Revolution of 1830 drove him into exile in England, making the window for this series unusually narrow.

Mintage figures vary considerably by year and mint, with issues from Bordeaux (K) and Toulouse (M) running substantially lower than Paris production. The 1827-dated pieces are among the scarcest in the series across most mint marks.
