Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of Saint John the Baptist, nimbed and robed, standing in the field holding a scepter in his left hand, rendered in the Gothic style typical of medieval Aragonese coinage. The saint is depicted with elongated drapery falling to the base, with fine linear detail in the hammered relief. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading S·IOHANNES·B, identifying the patron saint of Florence whose iconography was adopted for the Florin coinage tradition.

Reverse description A large fleur-de-lis occupies the central field, its three lobes boldly rendered in high relief with characteristic Gothic decorative flourishes at the base, filling nearly the entire flan in the manner derived from the Florentine florin prototype. The design is characteristically asymmetric due to the irregular hammered flan. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, identifying the issuing monarch.
