Beschrijving voorzijde Full-length facing figure of Saint John the Baptist, robed in a rough mantle, standing erect in the field with a nimbus around his head. Flanking the figure on the left is a rampant lion and on the right a partial heraldic beast, both rendered in the Gothic style typical of Aragonese coinage of the early fifteenth century. A partial circular Latin legend runs along the coin's periphery, partially obscured by the irregular flan.

Aanvullende informatie

Fernando I of Aragon — known as Fernando de Antequera — ruled Majorca as Fernando II of the island kingdom for only four years before his death in 1416, making this a short-window issue with a correspondingly tight production run. He came to the throne through the Compromise of Caspe in 1412, the arbitration that ended the Aragonese interregnum following the extinction of the male Barcelona line.

The half-florin denomination tracks directly to the Florentine florin standard that Aragon had adopted in the previous century. Cru. 759 is among the scarcer fractions of the Aragonese-Majorcan florin series.
