Fernando I of Aragon — the man who became king through the Compromise of Caspe in 1412, ending a dynastic crisis that had left the Crown of Aragon without a ruler for two years following the death of Martí I — issued this fractional gold piece for Majorca during a reign that lasted only four years before his death in 1416. The island's florin coinage followed Aragonese weight standards but operated under its own mint authority in Palma.
