Fernando I came to the Aragonese throne — and with it Valencia — through the Compromise of Caspe in 1412, a deliberate arbitration process that ended two years of succession crisis following the death of Martí I without a legitimate heir. His reign lasted only four years before his death in 1416, making this half-florin one of the shorter-lived issues in the Valencian series. The Kingdom of Valencia maintained its own mint and monetary identity within the Crown of Aragon, issuing fractional florins alongside the full florin weight standard imported from Florence in the previous century.
