The legend in traditional Chinese characters arranged around the sun reads 中華民國二十五年 (Year 25 of the Republic of China), with individual characters distributed evenly around the design. The entire motif is enclosed within a decorative border of continuous interlocking geometric meander pattern (Greek-key or fret-style), a classical Chinese decorative motif known as huíwén, running along the full circumference of the coin.
