Qutb-ud-Din Bahadur Shah ruled Gujarat during one of the subcontinent's most turbulent decades — his reign overlapping with Babur's invasion and the establishment of the Mughal Empire. Bahadur Shah himself would later be killed in 1537 during a confrontation with the Portuguese near Diu, making him among the few Indian sultans to die in direct conflict with European naval power.
Small copper fractional issues of this type saw heavy use in local bazaar trade and rarely survived in collectible condition.
