Reverse description The Portuguese royal arms displayed on an ornately mantled baroque shield, surmounted by a royal crown. The escutcheon bears the traditional quartered arms of Portugal, featuring the five quinas (escutcheons) of the kingdom of Portugal and the castle bordure of Algarves. The shield is set within elaborate acanthus-leaf and scroll mantling that fills the field. No peripheral legend is present, the entire reverse composition being devoted to the heraldic device.
