Aanvullende informatie

Carlos III's monetary reforms of the 1770s standardized gold coinage across the Spanish empire, but the third-type portrait introduced in 1786 reflected something more personal: the king was in his seventies, and the mint at Madrid updated the effigy accordingly. The half escudo was the smallest gold denomination in regular circulation, and these late-reign strikes were produced across only three years before Carlos III's death in December 1788.
