| Obverse description | Bust of Charles III facing right, hair dressed in undulating waves tied at the nape, set within a beaded inner circle. The royal effigy is rendered in the classicizing portrait style introduced by engraver Tomás Francisco Prieto. The circular Latin legend encircles the bust, with the regnal date appearing below the truncation. The overall design is characteristic of the first portrait type adopted for Spanish gold coinage following Carlos III's accession in 1759. |

| Reverse description | The crowned quartered arms of Spain occupy the central field, displaying the castles of Castile and the lions of León in the traditional arrangement of the Spanish royal coat of arms, surmounted by a royal crown. The circular Latin legend HISPANIARUM·REX surrounds the shield, denoting 'King of the Spains.' Below the shield appear the mintmark and assayers' initials, identifying the issuing mint and the officials responsible for the coin's fineness. A toothed border frames the entire design. |
