| Obverse description | Bust of Charles III facing right, hair dressed in undulating waves tied at the nape, set within a beaded inner circle. The royal effigy is rendered in the classicizing portrait style introduced by engraver Tomás Francisco Prieto. The circular Latin legend encircles the bust, with the regnal date appearing below the truncation. The overall design is characteristic of the first portrait type adopted for Spanish gold coinage following Carlos III's accession in 1759. |
