Reverse description Quartered shield displaying the royal arms of Castile and Leon: castles of Castile in the first and fourth quarters, and rampant lions of Leon in the second and third quarters, all set within a plain inner circle and enclosed by a beaded border. The quarters are divided by a plain cross. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield, with decorative star-shaped stops separating the words. The design follows the standard heraldic type established for Castilian gold coinage of this period.
