Reverse description The royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — displayed prominently in the centre of the field, surmounted by a large closed royal crown rendered in high relief. The circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, with the date 1647 appearing at the top of the coin and the mint mark letter in the exergue below the shield. The design is bold and finely executed, consistent with the milled coinage introduced under Warin's direction.
