Obverse description Draped bust of Louis XIV facing right, wearing a long flowing wig and armor with elaborate shoulder draping, engraved in the style of Joseph Roëttiers. A small sun symbol appears above the king's head within the field. The effigy is rendered with fine baroque detail, the drapery falling naturally over the truncation. The circumferential Latin legend reads LVD•XIIII•D•G FR•ET•NAV•REX, identifying the monarch as King of France and Navarre by the grace of God. The legend is separated from the effigy by an inner circle, with a toothed border running along the coin's rim.
