Obverse description Right-facing laureate bust of Louis XV, draped and cuirassed in the antique manner, as engraved by Charles Norbert Roettiers. The king's effigy is rendered in high relief with finely detailed drapery and armor. The encircling legend reads LUD . XV D . G . FR . ET . NAV . REX, identifying the monarch as King of France and Navarre by the grace of God. The portrait exemplifies the refined classicizing style characteristic of early eighteenth-century French royal coinage.
