| Obverse description | Draped bust of Louis I, Prince of Monaco, facing right, wearing a long flowing wig and lace cravat in the French baroque court fashion of the late 17th century. The effigy is rendered in high relief with considerable detail in the hair and garment folds. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading from the lower left and separated by pellets between abbreviated words. |

| Reverse description | The arms of Monaco — a shield fusilly (lozengy) of argent and gules arranged in four columns — displayed in the centre of the field, surmounted by a princely coronet adorned with fleurons and pearls. A motto ribbon or label appears within the upper portion of the shield beneath the coronet. The circumferential Latin legend, giving Louis I's titles as Duke of Valentinois and Peer of France, runs around the periphery with the date 1666 appearing in the upper portion of the legend. |
