Obverse description Crowned and armored bust of Henry II facing right, depicted in three-quarter profile with period Renaissance armour visible at the truncation. The king wears an elaborate crown with a prominent cross finial. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy reading HENRICVS. 2. D. G. FRANCOR. REX, separated by pellet stops, attributing the royal title to Henry II by divine grace. The hammered flan displays characteristic irregular surfaces typical of mid-sixteenth-century French gold coinage.
