Obverse description The obverse field is dominated by the Latin inscription ZEELANDIA arranged in three horizontal lines across the centre, with the letters ZEE on the uppermost line, LAN on the middle line, and DIA on the lower line. The date 1753 appears in the exergue area below. At the top of the field, flanked by two six-pointed stars, is the crowned tower mintmark of the Middelburg mint. The entire design is contained within a milled border, giving the piece a neat, regimented appearance characteristic of mid-18th century Dutch provincial coinage.
