Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Philip IV facing right, distinguished by a prominent thick ruffled collar characteristic of Spanish Baroque portraiture. The effigy is rendered in high relief typical of hammered coinage of the Spanish Netherlands. The date appears divided at the top of the field, flanked by the Bruges fleur-de-lis mintmark. The encircling Latin legend identifies the monarch as King of the Spains and the Indies.
