Zeeland's half ducaton sits within a provincial coinage tradition that survived well into the period when the Dutch Republic's political cohesion was visibly fraying. Each of the seven provinces retained independent minting authority throughout the Republic's existence, and Zeeland exercised that right aggressively — the Middelburg mint produced silver at a pace that frequently drew complaints from the States-General about weight and fineness standards being quietly undermined by provincial moneyers chasing seigniorage revenue.
The 1766–1793 date range ends just as the Batavian Revolution terminates Dutch provincial autonomy entirely.
