The shield bears the quartered Saxon arms with the distinctive barry field and rampant lion. Surrounding the central device, a circular Latin legend reads D G WILHELM DVX SAX LW C ET MO, identifying Duke Wilhelm IV of Saxe-Weimar by his titles.
