Obverse description Central device features a crowned barrel or tun, the heraldic symbol of Braunau, flanked by crossed olive or laurel branches issuing from below and sweeping outward across the octagonal field. The date 1743 is divided across the lower field, with the numerals 17 to the left and 43 to the right of the central charge. Below the main device, the inscription MAY. references the month of issue, recalling the emergency circumstances of the siege. The legend BRAVNAV arcs across the upper portion of the coin in bold Latin capitals. The entire composition is contained within the eight-sided planchet characteristic of this hammered klippe-style emergency coinage.
