Obverse description The archiepiscopal arms of Salzburg displayed within an ornate oval cartouche at the centre of the field, surmounted by a galero with depending tasselled cords arranged symmetrically on either side. The shield bears the quartered arms incorporating the Salzburg lion passant, with a small shield-shaped denomination mark (1/2) appearing at the base of the cartouche. A circular beaded inner border encloses the arms, while the Latin legend in Roman capitals runs around the outer periphery of the square klippe flan.
