Additional information

Paris von Lodron ruled Salzburg through the entirety of the Thirty Years' War, a feat of political survival that required constant negotiation between Catholic imperial interests and the practical necessity of keeping his territory intact and solvent. The archbishopric's gold coinage of this period helped fund both defensive fortifications — the Festung Hohensalzburg was substantially reinforced under his watch — and the ecclesiastical rebuilding program that gave Salzburg much of its baroque character.

The Zöttl range of 1390–1400 suggests at least ten distinguishable die combinations across the emission, a span consistent with nearly two decades of intermittent striking rather than a single coordinated issue.
